I’m not trying to be some sort of religious scold here, but they are demons for a reason and being funny or brave probably doesn't have much to do with it. Although there’s something disconcerting about making a pair of demons the comedic heroes of a movie. Fantastic, if you are a sketch comedy nerd as I am. That’s right, “Wendell and Wild” is also a Key and Peele reunion. As an added bonus, they are voiced by Jordan Peele (who co-wrote the film) and Keegan-Michael Key. These brothers are the titular Wendell and Wild. She doesn’t quite fit in with the other kids - she’s pretty punk and they are pretty prep - and she keeps having dreams of demon brothers who promise they can bring her parents back to life. In her guilt-stricken grief, orphaned Kat Elliot (voiced by Lyric Ross) is left to fend for herself at a decrepit boarding school on the brink of bankruptcy. Like most animated films, it opens with parents dying. It is great to look at while not much fun to watch. It is also over-stuffed, a bit convoluted, morbidly fixated on death, and sort of sinister at its core. He just doesn’t miss.Director Henry Selick, who helmed modern classics like “A Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Coraline,” roars back into moviemaking with “Wendell and Wild.” Premiering on Netflix Friday, the adaptation of Selick’s un-published children’s book is visually daring, and a splendid example of classic stop-motion animation pushed to its creative limits. You can bet that as he releases more stuff, I am going to recommend you watch it all. His next film is set to come out on Christmas day, 2024, so we'll be keeping an eye out for what the next big movie is he's working on. These last few years have been crazy for Peele, from 2017 all the way up to 2023 and beyond for this talented actor/writer/director, so I'm eager to see what he going on next. Secondly, it’s co-written by Peele, as mentioned before, but the biggest reason is that Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are co-starring in it! It’s the return of Key & Peele! It really is one of the best stop-motion films in a long time, and one of the best animated films of 2022, alongside Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. First, it’s coming from the same man who directed Coraline, one of the best stop motion films ever. I’ll give you two reasons to watch this film. And, in order to do so, they enlist the help of a thirteen-year-old-girl. Directed by Henry Selick but co-written with Peele, this film tells the story of two demon brothers who are trying to get to the Land of the Living. Released as part of the 2022 Netflix movie release schedule, we have the latest stop motion film to grace our television screens, Wendell & Wild. (Image credit: Netflix) Wendell & Wild (Writer, Producer) It’s honestly one of the best Blumhouse horror films, and something that everyone needs to see.Īnd obviously, it was not the last time Peele would work with Daniel Kaluuya, as we see in Nope down below. If you haven’t seen Get Out, do yourself a favor and watch it now. Get Out is a great horror flick with so many cool behind-the-scenes facts, and deserves all the praise that it’s gotten, and Peele, who directed, wrote, and produced the film, did a fantastic job. The story is full of interesting plot twists, amazing acting, and some really cool deeper subjects that you don’t always get in a scary film. The film was nominated for several awards for a reason, including a win for Peele at the Academy Awards for Best Screenwriting. But, when Chris arrives at her family’s cabin, strange things start to happen that make him want to get out. Get Out follows the story of Chris and Rose, a young couple who go to meet her parents for the first time. The first film that Jordan Peele ever directed was Get Out, and boy did he deliver.
